WHITE
White seems to be the colour on every designers mind when it comes to SS2012 collections. After many shows that started or finished with all-white outfitsis is going to be big this season. Everyone from New York to Paris, from Milan to London is going with a trend and catwalks are filled with beautiful laces from Emilio Pucci and sharp strong-shaped dresses from Roksanda Ilincic. All in white of course. Even the eyebrows were stylised white at Gareth Pugh show.
While Chanel, Blumarine, Ralph Lauren, Yves Saint Laurent and many others show more tradional designs in white, Chloe goes much more sportswear than usual and experiments with different shades of white. When some designers work with different tonality of whites, then others play around with a shape. Gareth Pugh suprised us with his very abstaract cut-outs and bold shapes  in Paris and Roksanda Ilincic finished her SS2012 collection with snow- white dresses which had either new dropped shoulder or exaggerated hip, which are both really popular trends this season as well. Stella McCartney proved that more feminine designs and light fabrics  havent gone anywhere and white silk jackets with geometrical cut-out edges and white bodices can never be a faux-pas.

CROPPED TOPS
There are two types of trends- the ones that do their comebacks and the ones that are completely new. So when I saw Alexander Wang cropped-top design on the caltwalk I felt like it was millenium again when EVERYONE was wearing a crop top. Cropped tops and bra like tops are not  very unusual items and have been spotted everywhere by  street style bloggers and photographers, but it seems that it is only now, that they have gone back to high fashion. This season there are so many variantions of cropped tops on the catwalk- Versace shows bandeau-like cropped top designs using it’s signature dark leather and stud design and of course, this season’s hit- white. Emilio Pucci goes for the same “safe” colour this season using simple crop t-shirt shape and balancing it with a long printed skirt.
As the designers keep using the sportswear in their almost couture-like designs, it is not a surprise that british brands like Holly Fulton and Preen have continued working with that while making their designed jackets and shirts short and modern.
Summer is really a time to go wild with colours and prints and it is good to see that D&G, Victor&Rolf, Blumarine and many others have not held themselves back using colour on this season’s favourite shirt lenght.

NIGHTWEAR
Nightwear-like designs are something really new and it is refreshing to see something so feminine after last couple of seasons that were mainly full of  bold colur-blocking, sportswear and masculine shapes. It is a trend that was seen here and there on the catwalks before, but after Stella McCartney showed her collection based on only nightwear-inspired designs, it really became clear that this is one of the BIG trends for SS2012. Stella showed us her feminine short silk dresses in almost every colour that it’s possible and then balanced her collection with more boyfriend-cut-pyjama-like designs, which were either paired with cool and bold sunglasses or almost clinical looking flip-flops.
If mixing SS2012 other big trends like transparency and lace with a nightwear , it is no suprise that a new boudoir look dresses were shown everywhere around the world  on catwalks this season. Alber Elbaz uses mostly soft pastel tones for Lanvin  ss2012 see-through dresses with a dark “hot pants” bottom underneath. Galliano, on the other hand, continues with last season's trend using bright colours like electric blue, this seasons favourite- white and traditional black, and creates flawless nightgown-inspired designs.
Other designers like Ricard Nicoll, Valentino and Nina Ricci are not trying to hide their nightwear and boudoir style influence either this and are helping this trend to grow even bigger.

GRAPHICAL PRINT
It seems like with every season, print is getting bigger and bigger when it comes to seasonal trends. Designers like Mary Katrantzou who is known for her prints, goes blows up floral and mixes it with industrial elements to acheve colourful prints for this season.
Akris wow’s us with black and white illusional prints which will make our heads go round and that are definetly a show stoppers on the streets.  Brooke and Basso use every colour in a palette , blocks them out with a graphic lines and shows  us all how well can it all work together.
Alexander Wang closed his New York Fashion week show  with a bodysuits covered with sheer jersey which had stadium seating maps printed on it, whichlooked so strong and powerful with that use of materials and colours.
Even Stella McCartney and Chanel, who usually don’t like to add too much print to their collections decided otherwise this season-  Chanel broke down it’s white simplicity with diagonal black graphic lines and Stella placed white and red sweatshirts in between her silk nightwear-inspired dresses.
