Greatest happiness comes within
Being back in London is strange, extremely strange. Especially after being away for such a long time. 12 months! god, time really flies when you are having fun. I hope any of my estonian readers don't mind me writing in English, I think it's the english environment that really pushes me into thinking in english ( after 6 years here) and makes me think it's easier to express myself like this.
Anyway- back to the topic. Before making my London comeback I decided take a little more time off ( Like Thailand and Portugal weren't enough?!) and just stay home. 3 words- BEST. DECISION. EVER. I had finally time to do all the things I ever wanted to, spend time with most important people in my life. Be part of their everyday life, routine. Friendships and relationships with family members tend to become strange when you are away most of the time. Every meeting becomes a catch up session which is mostly positive and happy, but you never get a real feel of their happiness or saddnes, in some cases worry, excitement and many other things. These weeks really gave me a chance to do that. I made every day a celebration. There was always a brunch, lunch, or dinner involved, there was always a happy walk, maybe a cinema or movie night or something else. So don't get all bored about many food pics that you'll find in this post- not showing off any cooking skills( that's coming in a next post!) but pic-proofing beautiful memories and wonderful times with the dearest.
Excuse my Instagram-filled post and enjoy little tiny piece of what I've enjoyed in a past month:
Mostly, I had luxury of having slow mornings which have involved lots of cuddles and purrs with my kitten. I know, not so kitten anymore. but. still. She's my little angel.
And then the breakfasts. My fav meal of the day. Pancakes, porridges, eggs, all that + newspapers, magazines, a book or some horrible show on TLC makes a perfect morning.
I've enjoyed luxury having an opportunity to take walks in the nature, really enjoying all the space, peace and quiet I have around! I think it's something you don't really notice and appreciate normally, but after living in big cities, you realise its something that is so rare.
I took walks or went for a run every day. Even tho it was just few degrees above 0c the sun was out and shining, so that was good enough for me. That really gave me a good energy boost for a whole day. At some days when I was feeling like going for a little longer, I walked or ran to my grandma who lives in Kopli. That's quality time x2. She is the most beautiful precious thing. She's always supported me with every inch of her body and brought so much happiness to my life. It has so good to see her that much and enjoy cups of tea and long walks with her!
Ok and here comes the food! For pizza to roast nights and brunches that looked more like dinners, we had it all. I am a foodie, so for me there's nothing better than nice food and good company. My friendships seem to go deeper than person I am friends with- their family and people important to them become important to me to. Especially If I've known them for most of my life. There's so much love around me on moments like this <3 p="">3>
I've been so blessed with all the people around me. I am lucky that I met most of them when I was just 8-9 years old and I am thankful for all the ones that have come in to my life during all these years. Some sooner, some later. I believe in soulmates and if anything, then this some somer serious soulmate s*it.
I have wonderful group of girlfriends who all balance each other perfectly. We say stuff to each others face, we laugh til we cant breath ( and almost pee ourselves), we cry on each others ( and eachother's mothers) shoulder when we need to and spend hours playing games like " who would you marry/kill/sleep with" and do other silly non-sense like this. We never call, but just randomly appear behind each others doors, go camping and go out for old times sake.
Picture below really sums it up perfectly.
THIS.
Typical 4 h brunch.
Followed by cinema and other activities.
I also took time off from our little city and ran away with K to a place where there was no signal, no food ( aka fast/paastulaager), but we had books, movies, nature and time just for ourselves. She is as well, most wonderful beautiful person. I believe I found another friend for life.
I think we don't say that kind of stuff enough. Don't appreciate people you know.
ah yes. new kicks arrived! happy happy happy! did I say happy?
One of the girls from our "girlpower" had a little baby girl just about a year ago. She is beautiful and funny and sweet just like her mama. Sadly, she only had chance to see her crazy auntie Roberta just a few times before. So it was so-so wonderful to see her ( and her mama!) almost every day. Also, we attended 1st birthday party and filled our plates with some delicious stuff that her mama, grandma and great grandma had made. Yumyum in my tummmm!
Disney themed birthday! I think we could have been a little better at this. S is a frog, I am robbin hood and grete is poccahontas( good effort!). Laura- eee... not so sure and cant remember haha!
Juicing everything with K. Just because its delicious and so good for your health!
I cooked pretty much at least 2 different meals a day plus two different desserts for all of my family and friends. Yes pretty time consuming, but there were so many things I wanted to try out, so many foods I wanted to experiment it. Gotta love everything fresh and colorful!
Note: freeze everything!
I also pushed my parents into little detoxing and step by step made them change their eating habits. My mom wanted to get healthier and leaner so did even a special lunches for her- roasting lots of vegges that detox the body and adding some smoothies and protein to it. Without any exercise she lost good amount of weight, kept her tummy happy and treated her tastebuds during these weeks. So that was my little health experiment haha.
Healthy for mama, cakes for me. This must be my favourite- healthier version of a carrot cake( but not as healthy as the raw one was). Orange infused double coconut cream carrot cake. YUM.
My oven broke down in middle of making it, so I ran to my friends house across the street. it was raining, i was wearing apron and running pants and holding a cake in my hand. Must have been quite view. I cooked it there and took it to another friend's place for dinner!
Next day as a thank you gift for M and K for letting me use their oven I baked them a traditional blueberry pie. We still have so many berries left in a freezer from last summer( picked by my grandma from our garden) that I was trying to use them in everything so we can make space for new ones this summer.
Pretty fanfuckingtastic nails. Anyone who disagrees- you are wrong.
Casual walks with girls around our hood & forest.
And there was even time for a selfie or two. I know, thats been a loooooong time!
Easter lunch with sweethearts. Made some fresh salad and pies(? not sure how you call it) with goat cheese cream, mushrooms, spinach, asparagus, parma ham etc, We coloured a good amount of eggs, which was fun. I am sure we all imagined them to turn up little prettier, little bit more like picasso and less like what they did. Strangely L's little sisters did better job at that than all of us together. Is it a skill that you lose with time?
Baby girl Mia. Angel.
Making of.
Egg workshop.
And my pasha! Must be another one of my fav desserts ever. Every easter I make it and think why the hell do I not make it any other time of the year if I love it so much?
Better late than ever- L's birthday. This year I didn't celebrate mine, which was ok. I spent in at the most beautiful location at Koh Samui and birthdays are anyway mostly just to have a good time with good people. I am glad that L decided to celebrate hers- another reason to eat, laugh and drink.
After leaving Balmain and doing detox I haven't been much of drinker. I think it's the champagne diet I was on in Paris that really kind of made me feel that I had enough for a little. But that didn't stop mixing shots and wine and cocktails in honour of L.Love her to bits. Happy bday to my oldest friend.
party starting. 7 pm. you should have seen us later!
And back to the walks and sea next morning. Need.some.energy.
I keep talking about friends, while I am not forgetting that family is so important too. It's strange but good , this being home thing. Being part of my moms and dads daily life is something that I didnt have chance to for so many years.
And there's always my sister and nephews, who are growing up so fast. One weekend I took a trip out with my sis to support S at his dancing competition. First place! He is the most handsome talented boy. I am sure many hearts will be breaking soon.
Coming from not going out, going to bed at 10 pm and not drinking to staying without proper sleep for almost 3 days and dancing all night, watching sunrise from a old town rooftop and having breakfast porridge with a wine- I'm definitely not finding a great balance between things here. Still- best night in a long time.
And last but not least- first BBQ of 2014. Delicious. That would be all.
I hope you enjoyed this long and detailed overview of how things have been and whats been happening on my instagram. Haven't done that for a while.
I tend to work hard and play hard( how cheesy!), so after all that play, I am now in London. 1 goal on my mind- work my ass off, write million essays that I need to, sort out ideas for final collection, dissertation and all that.
Sending so much love,
R.
